OSHA-NIOSH provides a heat index guide for employers.
This week the Department of Labor released a reminder, particularly for employers in the Pacific Northwest, regarding the protection of workers from heat illness. The region has seen much higher than usual temperatures in recent weeks.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health provide a Heat Illness Prevention Campaign that has a heat index in addition to guidance for employers of outdoor workers. OSHA states, “Employers have a duty to protect workers from recognized serious hazards in the workplace, including heat-related hazards.” Their message includes the simple instructions, “Water. Rest. Shade.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For the Labor Department as they issue guidance for employers on heat illness.
- For OSHA as recommendations are released to protect outdoor workers.
- For those at risk in the Pacific Northwest during the drought and extreme heat.
